“WATER FOR THE CITY” IS A PILOT PROJECT IN THE CITY OF ALEXANDROUPOLIS, TO PROMOTE AN INTEGRATED APPROACH TO WATER MANAGEMENT AT THE URBAN LEVEL.
Its goal is to increase water supply for urban use and promote good practices for the sustainable water use in the city.

In addition to the demographic and lifestyle changes resulting in increased pressure on freshwater resources, climate variability and change poses threats to local water security, especially in coastal areas.

As urban centers are growing and related water needs are increasing, the optimisation of the urban water cycle through integrated approaches and stakeholder engagement becomes key toward local sustainability.

With the larger coastline in the Mediterranean, exceeding 13,600 kilometers, many coastal cities and towns face water related challenges, exacerbated also by salinisation of aquifers.
